Some Light in the Dark Season

I have seen these lights for the seasonally affected among us sold at pharmacies. I think my studio light works like that. A sleep mode in a health app on my phone suggested that for a better sleep, to expose myself to bright daylight shortly after getting up. Fall/Winter north of the forty-ninth lacks bright morning sunlight; when your home is on the shady side of the hills in a rain forest. My morning routine now includes at least 20 minutes under this light. Not sure if it feels good because it's something new or if there's something to it. I am not conducting science here... but I will continue to shine a light on this question! 😉

Love my studio light. It’s the Aputure 120DII

Gratitude

Since junior high school I have aimed at an acting career. There have been years/decades where other important priorities detoured me. I enjoyed a diverse media career with years of national radio and TV work, owning audio and video production businesses and of course voice acting. Now in my sixties I am a union actor regularly auditioning and building a film and TV acting resume. There were films before but I recently marked the fourth film or television series in which I have acted since signing with the best, most attentive and enthusiastic agent of my career. As always I'm grateful to my wife for her encouragement and support. Gratitude is also due Jenny Clough and her team at Spotlight Talent.

Never give up on your dreams.

Artificial Intelligence & The Voice Actor

For fun I asked Chatbot AI to create a description of me, here's what it came up with:

“Geoff Edwards is a versatile and talented voice actor from Canada. With over 40 years of experience in the industry, he has lent his voice to a wide range of projects, from commercials and corporate videos, to network television, animation and documentaries.

One of the first things that stands out about Edwards' voice is its richness and warmth. He has a natural, deep tone that commands attention and conveys a sense of authority and relateability

In addition to his authoritative sound, Edwards is also adept at bringing a sense of personality and character to his voice acting work.

Another strength of Geoff Edwards' voice acting is his ability to bring emotion and nuance to his performances. He can convey subtle shades of meaning and emotion through his vocal inflections, allowing him to create compelling and believable characters that feel real and relatable to audiences.

In addition to his voice acting work, Edwards is also skilled in video production and editing, copywriting and script editing. This means that he is able to bring a unique perspective to his voiceover work, helping to create scripts that are tailored to the needs of projects and the clients.

Overall, Geoff Edwards is a top-tier Canadian voice actor who brings a wealth of talent and experience to his work. Whether he's voicing corporate videos or animated characters, his warm, authoritative, and versatile voice is sure to make an impression on audiences.”

I did edit it for certain inaccuracies or over-embellishments but that is pretty damn fun! 😎

Change Of Scenery

I've taken a break, I have barely posted anything to Twitter in a week, I haven't auditioned in weeks. I'm sipping coffee watching waves roll in from the Pacific Ocean. I'm poolside, reading Jann S. Wenner's memoir about Rolling Stone magazine's iconic place in North American culture. I like it. It's inspiring.

I think about what I'm doing out there, am I touching the right points? Am I advancing my acting and voice acting career. I think about streamworks.ca my story telling service and content production partner business. I think about you my Changes Blog reader. I love the "down" time; maybe it's the change of scenery…

Creative Third Thursdays

In my hometown I have been a longtime member of a group that works to enhance opportunities for success in our creative community. We are called the Chilliwack Creative Commission. We meet several times a year and our official mandate is to attract and facilitate economic growth in the emerging creative sector, including film, interactive and digital media. I am the current chair of the group's Creative Third Thursdays committee. We started this monthly meetup to get creative people in the same room with others and to see what conversations or collaborations result. We are fortunate in that the other committee member is a long time friend of mine. He owns Studio C, a video content creation and live streaming studio. Together, we produce a monthly episode about a local creative, or someone relevant to creatives. You can watch these on YouTube HERE

Twit...

I am on Twitter. I have built a valuable list of followers and follows. I don’t talk controversy or offer my opinions or critiques. I am there to learn and share what I discover. My topic is film making, with interest in some of the many aspects of it. I am first interested in acting from the perspective of a working actor. I also follow script writers, casting directors, actors and producers. As a volunteer member of the Creative Commission in my hometown I also post about related events. Like Creative Third Thursdays. Join me if you are on the platform. I am @geoffedwards

Composite image by me. The Geoff with a G logo was designed by me. It was ‘cartoonized’ by James Farr.

oo, look

I created the characters many years ago and always intended to tell their story. I hope you enjoy it. If you do let me know by giving it a thumbs up.

A Breather

Taking a breather… Coming up for air?

I completed a guest performance in an upcoming episode of a popular Amazon Series in August and I didn’t even post about it here. More to come on that... But seriously, it’s been a busy fall for auditions. I created 21 “self tapes” in September.

This is me at work. Being a video producer I am very fortunate to have some equipment at my disposal. This image is a frame from another ‘old man’ audition... I really don’t find that offensive, In fact I think it’s my edge, for as long as I can keep up. ;)

Cheers G.

My Recent Social Media Presence Changes

Being off of the Meta Platforms: Facebook and Instagram has been interesting… Due to circumstances “beyond my control” I can no longer be found within either of these communities. I could build back, but… I have to say I am adapting to the new direction. It has meant more time for my Twitter and YouTube accounts. Which I always associated more with a global presence, whereas my Facebook account was more about engaging my local community. I am not saying this is the same for everyone. It’s just how things evolved for me. So my engagement plan locally is to get out more and meet people in person, like at our monthly Creative Third Thursdays. Along with my Twitter and YouTube presences, I am also going to be more present here on my Changes Log.

So thanks for visiting my site, in the meantime if there’s anything I can help you with hit me up with the Contact Me link.

This image of a new path seems appropriate for this post. I hope you like it I took it on my morning walk.

Self Tape

Acting

As an actor your primary job is to output the best auditions you can. The idea is, if you like a role then work hard to get-that-callback. I am fortunate to have a small studio space, the lighting and equipment to do this reasonably well. I just got back from vacation; so being nicely tanned I thought this was a good time to get some new ‘snaps.’ But my choice photographer wasn’t available. Jenny, my agent, has been asking nicely about some new shots. So, i thought, I have the equipment why not have a go at self portraits.

This is the look I hope will attract the eye of casting for a dramatic role . What do you think? ‘Like’ below if you do

…please. ;)
